Great shoe as your first soccer cleat

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is my first pair of entry-level soccer cleats, and it's clear that extreme performance isn't the priority at this price range. I'm a dedicated wearer of the Legend series soccer cleats, not only because I usually play as a midfielder, but also because the fit of the Mercurial series cleats doesn't suit my feet at all. Note: If you have wide feet and a high instep, avoid the Mercurial series cleats!!! Let's start with the downsides of these cleats. Although the Mercurial series is renowned for speed, at this level, you can hardly feel the speed aspect. The cleats are not particularly light, and the rigidity of the sole doesn't provide enough speed sensation. The upper part of the cleats doesn't stretch well at the toe bend, causing pain on the top of my foot with every sprint. The heel also doesn't fit snugly, creating a strong dragging feeling with every sprint. The biggest advantage of these cleats is probably their price. As an entry-level pair, they meet all the basic requirements of soccer cleats. While the upper isn't very comfortable, it does have a thin material thickness, which allows for better ball feel and a more enjoyable dribbling experience. Additionally, the upper is very durable and has excellent longevity.

Incredible updates

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] To start with, this is the third pair of Zoom Vapors I’ve had. I’ve been in love with the shoe since it first launched, as its flexibility (mobility) and look are unrivaled. This latest version is a great new take on a classic design. The material feels incredibly light (better contact on the ball), yet durable—all while being made with at least 20% recycled materials. Fit: These are true to size, possibly a tiny bit small, but that’s a positive in cleats. The shoe itself, is, like most other Zoom Vapors, on the more narrow side. It’s designed to be snug on your foot on the pitch. If you have wider feet and intend on wearing thick socks, maybe order a half size up. Look: This is my favorite Nike cleat to date. With its all black design and very subtle swoosh and accents, it looks incredibly sleek—even the cleats and sole are dark. This color scheme is going to look the best, the longest, as it will hide all of the scuffs (and dirt) from regular use. Quality of Materials: I’d give it a 9/10 on quality. The shoe feels incredibly durable and performs well on the pitch. I’m only detracting 1 point as the tongue feels too thin and potentially weak. To be clear, it hasn’t torn or had any issues, but I just worry that it might. Overall: I’ve loved wearing them and their performance is fantastic. The shoes are comfortable, secure, and with their thin design, you have immense control when striking the ball. I’m a huge fan of the color scheme, though, I wouldn’t complain if there was a tiny more color popping on the swoosh (maybe a dark grey?). Beyond that, the only other change is perhaps a slightly thicker tongue on the shoe, for both protection and peace of mind. Highly recommend these cleats!

Review for the Zoom Vapor 16 Academy FG/MG

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Overall, this pair of soccer cleats provides a positive experience for the sport. Putting them on was not the worst, although opening up the tongue one more eyelet would make it feel more comfortable to slip on. The shoe feels great on the foot as it provides a snug, comfortable fit that molds perfectly to the shape of my foot, ensuring maximum comfort and control on the field. There is less cushion where the ball hits your foot the most, which makes contact with the ball more controlling. As a whole, the design of the shoe is standard yet unique to the world of soccer. The inside and outside fabric is smooth and soft, while the bottom cleats hold firm to the ground. The shoes feel breathable without making it feel like my feet are sweaty. I would definitely continue to use this pair and would recommend it to others looking to enjoy a kick-around or perform at a high level!

Fits like a glove

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The cleats fit true to size. They are flexible enough to keep you stabilized during motion and planted in the field. As long as you lace them tight, you should not have any issues long term. I could run in them just as fast as any shoe. The matte black material is pretty breathable with a subtle shine. I like wearing black shorts and black socks with these. The material surprisingly did not scuff and provided adequate protection in a game of soccer. I don’t think I would change anything about them. Attached is a photo before the game.

zoom vapor 16 academy fg/mg

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Design: Right out of the box I thought the design was great. I am not a flashy person so the mostly black and subtle blue design was awesome. I think this colorway will relate with many soccer/fútbol enthusiasts. Fit/Feel: I did (2) 30-45 min workouts in these cleats; Running, Cutting, Cone drills, Sprinting, Passing, Shooting, Plyometrics to name a few. The fit wrapped around my feet like a glove and were the right amount of snug. My foot is a little wide at the balls of my feet so it would be nice if there was a wide option of this particular cleat. I know with time the cleat will loosen up break in a little more and be a better fit. What I liked most about the cleat was how much grip I had on a stop and go and cutting laterally. The grip I had on the grass (I was not able to test them on turf as well) was one of the best I felt in a while. Surprsingly the tongue did not move to the outside of my foot as some other cleats do. That was nice because I usually have to bend down and readjust the tongue after a few minutes while training or in a game. An unneeded distraction when you are trying to concentrate on training or in-game execution. Fabric; The fabric is very comfortable and not one part of the cleat poked, pinched, or dug into my foot or skin. This was especially important because lots of times with new cleats in the breaking in process of the cleat is not a good fit or will cause blistering on the back of the heel or the achilles area. Also, since it is summer time where I live I cannot speak on water resistance and performance in wet conditions. Overall I was very happy with these the design, fit and performance of these cleats. Like I stated in the above section(Fit/Feel) the only change or modification rather a wide option would be nice for those of us who have wider feet.

Staple soccer shoe with potential

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Zoom Vapor 16 Academy is next the staple soccer cleat, but slow down and get the right fit. The Vapor 16 Academy is a great cleat, but make sure you size up half a size. I got them size 11. I would size up a bit because the toe box is snug. Also, when using the shoes make sure to use soccer socks. Once I used regular soccer socks instead of cushioned socks there shoe fit was better. Still snug, but the feel was much better. Using soccer socks allows you to feel the contact with the ball better, too. The Vapor 16 Academy has a good design for training and matches. The mesh like top material really lets you index where you want to make contact with the ball. The heel is cushioned and comfortable. I was really impressed with the outsole. The different stud designs and placements are great for hard breaks, quick changes in directions, and really digging into the ground to get a good take off. Also, the outsole is flexible, but sturdy enough to provide you a support when going up a gear or immediate take off when changing directions. The fabrics of the shoes are great quality. A sometimes neglected aspect of shoes that I really appreciate is the shoes laces. Other shoes that I have owned had cheap shoe laces that would wear down easily. The laces on this shoe are great quality and feel like I won't have to replace them in a long time. The inside of the shoe is smooth and feels soft. A desirable aspect in any shoe, but especially important for soccer cleats. You don't want a rough chafing fabric when you are running and shooting a ball. Overall, the Zoom Vapor 16 Academy can easily become a staple soccer shoe. You can tell the shoe was designed with intention and consideration. I would, however, love to see an iteration of this shoe with a bit more room in the toe box. Aside from that, I really enjoyed how natural it felt using the shoes. It didn't take long to break in the shoe. Making contact with the ball while dribbling, juggling, shooting, and practicing ball control felt like using a shoe that I have had for a while. Last Note: I play center mid. The shoes felt a bit tight during the scrimmage until they didn't. After a few minutes the shoes "loosen up" and you can fully focus on the game. Playing mid lens itself to a lot of passing. This is a great soccer cleat for midfielders.

A Fair Seasonal Shoe

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This cleat has its highs and lows. At the end of the day, I can equate any issues to sizing, preference, and season. These cleats fit large–I should have ordered a half size (maybe whole size) smaller. If I had sized these better, these are easily one of the most comfortable boots I have owned. Otherwise, these feel great on the pitch. The studs are versatile and work great on our summer game field (a very fair MG) and our practice field (possibly the hardest HG I have played on). I am able to move freely and precisely. I never slipped, and my studs never got stuck in the turf. As far as the outside of the boot, it isn't my favourite. I like the look and the pattern, but the practicality isn't there for me. Living in the South, it is very hot through the summer. With the black on black colour scheme, they attract heat. Plus, the material does not breathe. My feet were burning during training. They are simply too hot to wear on a sunny day. The same material that does not breathe could be a benefit in the rain; I just haven't had the opportunity to test that yet. I can see myself using these at night, in the winter, or in rainy conditions. Personally, the outer material almost grips the ball too much for me and my shot, but again, that's a personal preference. Overall, I would recommend these to a player as long as they know what they are looking for in a boot.

ZOOM VAPOR 16 ACADEMY

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Was able to put these to use in natural grass and synthetic grass, and I can say they performed in both! It took a while to break in but after a while they felt a lot better. The only other thing I would note would be the sizing, I’m a true size 8 but these felt a bit snug. Definitely go up half a size or a full size.

Mercurial + Zoom Air = Magic

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Zoom Vapor 16 Academy cleats feel like top of the line comfort boots with every step. The zoom air technology incorporated into the boots is noticeable by providing comfort and functionality. With every step and push off, I felt the boot propel and jolt me forward. The grip from the stud pattern also felt very sturdy on multiple playing surfaces. My initial 10+ hours in the boots on firm ground and turf fields allowed me to break the boots in pretty quickly and adjust them to my feet. These are slimmer boots with a more snug feel if you go true to size. A half size up in these would be my recommendation if you like a little room in your fútbol cleats. They feel like great materials so far and don’t get overwhelmingly hot in sunny playing conditions. The simple boot design will allow for some stunning color combinations. Overall the cleats are a great use of comfort technology with a simple design to allow for boots with great fit, form, and function.

Small upgrades compared with the previous version

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The cleats feature a sleek and now, popular design, with the big 'AIR' letters in the heel which are aesthetically pleasing. The streamlined shape and lightweight materials is something that Nike has accustomed us to with the Zoom Vapor lineup, it aids in speed and agility, making them an easy choice for players looking to improve their game. The updated soleplate design provides more traction compared with the vapor 15 (a model I currently use), some players may find that change not enough to consider it when making a purchase over previous models. I had the oportunity to test both models on a match of my local soccer league and I could compare them. The insole I felt it confortable as usual, the cleats feel stiff at the beggining however, this is a common trait among new soccer cleats and usually resolves with a bit of wear, also notice as these are 'Academy' variant, the flexibility of the materials is not as good as the pro models, but they are still very stretchy and can accommodate wide feet though. I got them on my usual size and they feel fine but, if you want them to snug fit then go half size down. Overall, these soccer cleats represent a tiny step forward in traction and functionality thus this may be a deterrent for players with previous version of this model or those on a budget.

The elite that is not an elite

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Straight out of the box this felt like a high end elite model (comparing to Vapor 15 Elite that I own) a very tasteful color way. The complete black out makes it even more premium. The fit is true to size of my soccer cleats I use. I am a little more wide on my foot size and this fit perfectly. For the Vapor 15 Elite it took one session to break in but this was perfect from the box. The only downside that I noticed was on the heal area that will be discussed on the first time use on an AG pitch. These cleats are amazing! For the Academy tear this is something that will be hard to compete with for what is brings! The touch is amazing and might even prefer compared to my Vapor 15 Elite! The stud pattern is awesome for AG since it is both responsive and forgiving! The conical studs help with releasing and tension and does not cause any sort of danger from more aggressive stud patterns. Can not emphasize the color way even more. This looked awesome! The durability is really great again. I am the type of soccer player that cuts and stops and changing directions and also drag my from toe box tip. This usually results in wear and separation of the sole plate but this was not the case for this first session. My first session with the Vapor 15 Elite I was already seeing scuff marks and scratches but on this instance I only had to wipe off dust from the AG pitch. The only improvement that I did notice was going to be a concern is in the heal area. Since there was support There was a lot of pressure on my ankles. This is due to slippage happening on the heal due to lack of structure. Post game on the Vapor 15 Elite I will feel come ache but that’s due to my sharp directional change or some contact from other players but in this case I felt it more and this was due to the lack of support. For my first impression on the pitch if the Vapor 15 Academy had the heal support addressed This would be my recommendation. For anyone getting into soccer this is a must buy as a starter boot. For upcoming Youth under 16 I would recommend this.

Great cleats!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Nike Zoom Mercurial Vapor 16 soccer cleats are great for their performance, comfort, and innovative design. I loved the all black color way, which went with everything and was easy to clean. Here are some key aspects that make them stand out: 1. **Fit and Comfort**: The cleats offer a snug, glove-like fit, they were true to size. The internal structure ensures stability without compromising flexibility, which is crucial for quick movements on the field. 2. **Traction and Stability**: The strategic placement of studs enhances stability during sharp turns and rapid sprints, giving players confidence in their footing. Offered excellent traction while playing on turf, which I mostly did. 3. **Performance**: For shooting and dribbling, the cleats excelled. My shots were clean, ball went on target. While dribbling, I had no problem with the cleats because they helped keep my control. 4. **Durability**: The cleats are constructed with high-quality materials that ensure they can withstand the rigors of regular use. The durability of the upper and the strength of the soleplate make these cleats a reliable choice for serious athletes. Used on mostly turf fields, they did not get affected too much. 5. **Design**: Aesthetically, the blacked out Zoom Mercurial Vapor 16 cleats have a sleek and modern design. Overall, the Nike Zoom Mercurial Vapor 16 soccer cleats are an excellent choice for players looking for a combination of comfort, performance, and durability. They are particularly well-suited for players who rely on speed and agility, offering a competitive edge on the field.
