With the arrival of game day, it can be difficult to keep the nerves in check, but with a little pre-planning, rest assured, all you'll need to do is focus on your soccer game - playing hard and hopefully winning.
Follow our simple steps to ensure you're match-ready
Pack and prepare your kit
Have your kit washed and ready, your boots, socks and shin guards packed, and you have a change of gear for after the match? It will save time and the stress of hunting for gear at the last minute.
Energise with food
Eat a balanced meal at least three hours before the game, followed by light snacks to keep your energy up as kick-off draws closer.
Plenty of water the day before a game and sipped regularly throughout the match will help you stay hydrated. Pack energy bars for half time and those after game munchies.
Know where to go
Playing away from home comes with its own set of challenges. If you're not on familiar turf, ensure you know how to find the sports field, available parking and arrange a meeting point and time to arrive with the rest of your team.
Put on your boots and shin guards on arrival at the soccer field and start warming up with light jogging and running drills until the rest of your team arrives. Don't forget to stretch out your hamstrings, quads and calves before running on to the field.
Get your head in the game
When the rest of the team arrives practice passing drills and short plays. Goalies should recruit several players and practice deflecting kicks.
Now you're ready to take to the field.
