rebel hot tips hydrate

Hydrate

Ensure that you are well hydrated in the days leading up to your event, not just on race day.

food

Food

As most races are in the morning, test out different breakfast options prior to race day to find out what works best for you, but above all, don’t try anything new on the day.

training

Training

Time restraints are an issue for everyone. Typically, you should aim to go for 3 runs a week in the lead up to the event. Include a long run, speed work / interval training and a threshold run (using only 80-85% of your maximum effort). This should set you up for your Personal Best (PB).

clothing

Clothing

The ‘nothing new on race day’ mantra is also true for clothing and shoes. For example, the inside of new socks can rub on your toes and cause blisters.

pacing

Pacing

An even paced race with a strong finish is better than smashing out a PB by the half way point. Pacing is easier than ever with the advent of GPS watches. Some of the popular races, like half and full marathons, actually have pacers that you can follow.
